I'm hosting a special Challenge at ScrapMatters!

As part of the Design Star Contest at ScrapMatters we were asked to host a challenge and create a participation prize. I love Scraplift challenges because it allows you to sometimes get out of your comfort zone and look at some great galleries. I guess I will spill the beans now since I want to show you some inspiration. The person you will be scraplifting will be:
YOURSELF
Bet you haven't done that yet. It's a way to take a favorite layout of your own and make anotehr based on it. I can't wait to see what you come up with. Here is some inspiration from me:
My original layout:

My new one using my Design Star Round 4 kit Sand & Surf and a EZ mask from Erica Zane.

and from my wonderful mentor Wendy (wm[squared])

Her original layout:

and her scraplift using my Sand and Surf kit also

This challenge will not in any way be related to the SM Matter of Scrap points challenges but you will get this AWESOME alpha for participating!

I can't wait to see what you create and don't forget to upload your layout to the ScrapMatter gallery and to the Design Star Forum Challenge post so I can PM you your alpha. Enjoy!!!!

Something new and a challenge...

So...just wanted to let everyone know that I have something new coming out this Saturday with a great designer. I can't tell anymore because I don't have all teh details on how it's going to be revealed...but you can come back and check it out on Saturday or Sunday.

Also...check back on Monday please. I'm hosting a fabulous week long challenge at ScrapMatters for the Design Star Competition and it will be fun. YOu will also get an awesome alpha that I made for participating. We are in the last rounds of the competition so I'm thinking that the final people who are making the cut as apprentices will be announced soon. There are 10 of us left so cross your fingers for me.

World Autism Awareness Day

was just the other day and April is Autism Awareness Month. I know several friends who have children with Autism and I was hoping to help them out by posting the early signs of Autism for people to see. I know that focusing on early intervention is key.

Watch for the Red Flags of Autism

(The following red flags may indicate a child is at risk for atypical development, and is in need of an immediate evaluation.)

In clinical terms, there are a few “absolute indicators,” often referred to as “red flags,” that indicate that a child should be evaluated. For a parent, these are the “red flags” that your child should be screened to ensure that he/she is on the right developmental path. If your baby shows any of these signs, please ask your pediatrician or family practitioner for an immediate evaluation:

  • No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter
  • No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles, or other facial expressions by nine months or thereafter
  • No babbling by 12 months
  • No back-and-forth gestures, such as pointing, showing, reaching, or waving by 12 months
  • No words by 16 months
  • No two-word meaningful phrases (without imitating or repeating) by 24 months
  • Any loss of speech or babbling or social skills at any age

and here is a way that you can donate if you would like:

Pixel Gypsy Designs has partnered with the National Autism Association to raise money for the Helping Hand program during Autism Awareness month. The Helping Hand program is a donation driven, financial aid program that provides grant money to families in need who have dependents with Autism to help pay for therapy, biomedical treatments and supplements.
